I'll preface this by saying it's unlikely that spotlight indexing would contribute to a kernel panic, but in the interest of trying everything, give this a shot. This may be a long shot, but check if your spotlight is constantly indexing. If you want, run Etrecheck and post the output and I can try and advise. Have you got any exotic hardware that installs kexts (kernel extensions)? Check and see if there might be Mavericks versions of the drivers and software.Īny unused extensions or plugins in Safari? There are some other caches to clear too - I use a utility called Cocktail to clear these every now and then. Just in case something has been corrupted (quite rare). Once you have manually cleared out some cruft and you still experience slowness you could also try reinstalling the latest combo update: Open Disk Utility and repair permissions.įrom here onwards I'm assuming you have a recent full backup of your machine.
